Today I was asked to speak to the students of Hesston College for their chapel service and interpret their theme verse of Luke 4:18-19
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
I always love speaking to college students, but I thought this theme would be challenging to all of us. My apologies to the diehards in our faith community. While the message is new, I’m sure you’ve heard all the stories if you’ve been in our church for years. (BTW – video quality is no good, but the message is there…)
15 When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even if you offer many prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are full of blood;
16 wash and make yourselves clean.
Take your evil deeds
out of my sight!
Stop doing wrong,
17 learn to do right!
Seek justice,
Defend the cause of the fatherless,
plead the case of the widow.
18 “Come now, let us reason together,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.
What are some ways we rich people can embrace those in need:
- Serve in our churches
- Adopt a child through Compassion International or WorldVision
- Get involved in International Justice Mission
- Go on a personal mission (we’re going to Mexico, Turkey, maybe even Nebraska… come along)
- Don’t forget global rich list
We are rich, embrace those in need, lets live the life
